Mark your calendars for the Mill Creek Festival, taking place on July 17-18. Produced by the Mill Creek Business Association with major support from Providence Regional Medical Center, Providence Physician Group, and North Creek Roofing, this year’s event will continue to feature the elements it has in the past — artisan booths which are juried and feature only handcrafted items, neighborhood business booths, food court, main stage with live entertainment, beer and wine garden, community stage with local acts, an area dedicated to children’s activities, and a pet plaza.
The festival will continue to be a street fair, with the location this summer on Mill Creek Blvd. (behind Albertsons) and heading up a portion of 161st (between Bank of America and Rite Aid). The new location allows for a larger Pet Plaza with more room for canine acts and pet friendly vendors. The Community Stage will also have more seating. The move will highlight a different area of the city to visitors and provides for a fresh new layout that connects all the elements of the festival together. A portion of Mill Creek Blvd. will be closed as of Thursday, July 15 starting at midnight to allow festival organizers to begin setting up on Friday.
The entertainment line-up for the main stage is bringing back some favorites from last year including Dysfunksion who will put the “funk” into Saturday evening with hits from Pat Benetar, Joan Jet, Journey, Heart and more. Elvis tribute artist Tracy Alan Moore will be back gyrating and belting out the King’s greatest hits on Sunday, and the festival will wind down on Sunday evening with the Spazmatics with their new wave 80s show. A complete main stage line up will be available on the Web and in the festival program starting in June.
“It takes a lot of volunteers to create this two-day event and we have the best team, with many years of having organizing this festival,” said Kevin Giboney, MCBA Festival Director. “We also have new members from the MCBA which are bringing fresh ideas and new energy to the table. Plans are being realized and it looks to me like we will have another great event in July.”
The Mill Creek Festival will run Saturday, July 17 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (with the main stage and beer garden staying open until 7:30 p.m.) and on Sunday, July 18 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (with the main stage and beer garden extending their hours to 7 p.m.). Once again free shuttle service will be available from Jackson High School during festival hours.
